Your trusted fertility acupuncture for IVF clinic in Brisbane

A space to relax, rest and heal

Soothe Acupuncture and Tui Na Bodywork is a Brisbane natural medicine clinic focusing on fertility through IVF support, conveniently located in Holland Park in the Brisbane south area.

For more than 10 years, we’ve been providing acupuncture for IVF support to couples throughout Brisbane, particularly our nearby suburbs of Coorparoo, Stones Corner, Mount Gravatt East, Annerley, Tarragindi and Camp Hill.

We feel it’s our knowledge, combined with the empathy we have for every one of our clients, that has seen our clinic grow through word-of-mouth and referrals.

Each week, couples come in seeking advice on how our approach to acupuncture for IVF might help them.

Here’s a snippet of what we cover.

The growth in the West of acupuncture for IVF has been sparked by clinical research.

This has led many IVF clinics in the United States and elsewhere to either refer actively to acupuncturists, or employ them on-site as valuable members of their healthcare teams.

What’s the evidence for acupuncture for IVF?

You may have heard of clinical research trials or randomised controlled trials.

But have you heard of systemic reviews?

Systemic reviews are the gold standard in evidence-based medicine.

They aggregate, or collect, the information from individual clinical research trials and critically appraise the data, comparing trials, to form a more complete conclusion on how well an ‘intervention’ – acupuncture in our case – works.

In fact, all health practitioners registered by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency must abide by strict codes that prevent them from claiming they can support any condition that hasn’t been verified by systemic reviews.

2 systemic reviews you need to know about

Before 2016, the systemic reviews that existed then found that evidence for acupuncture’s effectiveness for supporting IVF and other assisted reproductive technology was unclear.

But, more recent systemic reviews are serving to firm things up.

Please know that research is continuing into how acupuncture for IVF can assist with the effectiveness of IVF and other ART treatments.

Our acupuncture for IVF practitioners are highly trained and registered with AHPRA

Soothe’s Brisbane acupuncture for IVF therapists are Nathan Francis and Margi Macdonald.

Both are members of the peak professional acupuncture body, the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association, and are registered by the Commonwealth Government’s Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

They’ve undertaken post graduate professional studies in acupuncture for IVF and fertility, attending conferences and workshops in venues throughout Australia.

Our acupuncture for IVF approach

Our acupuncture for IVF programs borrow from the effective techniques identified by systemic reviews to maximise outcomes for couples who come in to see us.

We focus on preparing our clients for IVF or ICSI, and supporting them during upcoming rounds.

Who comes to see us?

Usually, we see two types of couples:

  • those who have already been through many IVF or IUI cycles and are now seeking additional support
  • others who have not yet started ART and are contemplating combining their rounds with acupuncture.

Sometimes, we see people only on their embryo transfer day.

When’s best to start acupuncture for IVF?

We usually see the best results when couples see us once or twice a week for at least three months before they start IVF or IUI.

This helps to maximise their health before ART even begins.

Your experience with us will involve acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and dietary and lifestyle advice.

Please remember that for men, sperm take up to 120 days to develop. So at least three months of acupuncture is recommended.

Also, three months of acupuncture allows us to observe subtle changes in a woman’s menstrual cycle. Chinese medicine for fertility holds great importance to these subtle changes.

If you can’t wait three months, please contact us as soon as you can so we can start helping you.

After IVF and IUI rounds, we see our clients once or twice a week while they are waiting on results.

Also, we see them weekly in the initial stages of pregnancy.
