Soothe Acupuncture for fertility Brisbane

Soothe’s acupuncture for fertility Brisbane programs are ideal for couples wanting to conceive.

Our treatments aim to:

  • enhance ovarian function and egg quality
  • maximise sperm numbers and function
  • reduce stress and anxiety
  • promote weight loss if needed
  • improve sleep.

We also address polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis and other gynaecological conditions that can compromise fertility.

We begin with your diet

A properly functioning digestive system is the cornerstone of anyone’s health and wellbeing.

Soothe’s acupuncture for fertility Brisbane programs take into account your individual state of health to tailor dietary advice that’s specific to you.

We don’t subscribe to the latest fads and instead, rely on dietary plans that have been tried-and-tested for centuries to maximise your wellbeing.

If needed, we help you reduce weight

Losing just five kilograms is manageable for most of us and it can enhance your chances of conceiving.

While it’s imperative that you move more to burn calories and watch what you eat, acupuncture can assist.

We use points on the belly to help burn fat and other points in the ear to stimulate the vagus nerve and seratonin levels to suppress the appetite.

Many studies have been conducted on the effect of acupuncture on weight loss, generally with positive outcome (1).

Additionally acupuncture appears to increase insulin sensitivity which makes weight loss easier in those patients who have insulin resistance (2).

A systematic review and meta-analysis reported in the International Journal of Obesity concluded that acupunture was an effective treatment for weight loss (3).

Recommended program: Acupuncture one to three times a week for one to three months before IVF, or until desired weight loss has been achieved.

We help enhance egg quality

Maturation of eggs is a lengthy process.

To mature well, they need a good blood supply, the right nutrients and the right hormone signals.

Fertility acupuncture can help here as well.

You don’t need to be over 40 years of age to have ovaries that are not producing good quality eggs or that are not responding well to IVF drugs.

While acupuncture for fertility cannot increase the number of eggs left or change their chromosomes, it can help increase blood supply (and thereby oxygen and nutrients) to the follicles.

This is vitally important.

The blood supply to follicles in older ovaries is reduced during the late stages of their maturation (4).

Eggs from follicles with optimal blood supply have higher fertilisation rates (5).

Studies show acupuncture can promote the growth of new blood vessels (6) and can specifically increase blood flow to the ovaries (7).

So, acupuncture for fertility can have a profound affect.

Recommended program: Acupuncture once a week for three to six months.

We help enhance sperm quality too!

Many clinical research trials on acupuncture for fertility throughout the world have shown it can enhance sperm quality, especially when there is low motility or impaired morphology.

Soothe’s acupuncture for fertility Brisbane therapists use acupuncture points that increase blood flow to the testes, which help enhance nutrient delivery to developing sperm.

This, coupled with lifestyle and dietary changes, has a good effect.

Recommended program: Acupuncture one to two times a week for two to three months

We address polycystic ovarian syndrome

Polycystic ovarian syndrome usually causes women to experience no or few periods, which obviously impairs the chance of conceiving.

Acupuncture for fertility has been shown to address some of the factors that can prevent polycystic ovaries from working effectively.

Take, as an example, research that shows acupuncture can reduce testosterone and LH levels.

This nurtures the conditions for more frequent ovulation and better quality eggs.

Recommended program: Acupuncture one to four times a week until regular ovulation is re-established, until you conceive or for three months to prepare for IVF.

We address endometriosis

Endometriosis impairs ovarian function and affects the lining of the uterus.

Research has shown acupuncture for fertility is an effective treatment for reducing the symptoms of endometriosis.

Acupuncture is most effective when performed at specific times of your menstrual cycle.

These will be decided in conjunction with your practitioner and will depend on your symptom picture and whether you are actively trying to conceive.

Recommended program: Acupuncture once a week or fortnight.

Does acupuncture hurt? And other questions …

Usually, people find acupuncture relaxing. Believe it or not, but many fall asleep while having a treatment!
The Commonwealth Government now registers acupuncturists. Ask to see a practitioner’s qualifications and professional membership. Check that they use disposable needles.
The United Nations World Health Organisation lists more than 100 conditions treatable by acupuncture. There is a growing amount of scientific evidence showing it can help people with a range of conditions. Acupuncture is a gentle healing therapy. Each treatment builds on the former to bring about lasting change in the way Qi flows through the body, which is the key to restoring health. This is why a course of treatments is usually needed. The length of the course depends on the duration and serverity of your condition, and your constitution.
A major reason why people choose acupuncture is that it will not interfere with medications they might already be taking. Another key reason is that acupuncture can produce excellent results.
While most of us don’t cherish the thought of needles, know that acupuncture needles are very fine, so they glide into the body effortlessly. Once they’re in, you usually can’t feel them.
